Church Assistive Listening System Setup Guide
If you're installing a church assistive listening system, this guide explains how to properly connect an Auracast transmitter to your mixing console.
Step 1 – Use a Line-Level Output from Your Mixer
Connect your Auracast transmitter using one of the following outputs:
Monitor Out
Stereo Out (L/R)
Matrix Out
Aux Out
These provide clean line-level audio, which is ideal for stable installation.
Recommended Cable Connection
Use:
→ Dual 6.35mm (¼") TS/TRS to 3.5mm TRS cable
→ Connect the 6.35mm plugs to your mixer’s L/R outputs
→ Connect the 3.5mm end to the transmitter’s Line-In
This is the standard way to integrate a digital mixer into an Auracast assistive listening setup.
Why Not Use the Headphone (PHONES) Jack?
Although it may work temporarily, the PHONES jack:
Outputs amplified headphone-level audio
Is volume dependent
Can introduce distortion
Is not recommended for permanent installation
For reliable performance, always use a dedicated line-level output.
What If My Mixer Uses XLR Outputs?
Professional mixers often provide balanced XLR outputs.
You can:
Use an XLR to 6.35mm TRS adapter
Then connect to a 3.5mm line-in cable
Ensure the output is set to line level
Disable phantom power on that channel
Balanced-to-unbalanced conversion in this setup is standard practice.
